A lot of people are in business to offer you training.  So how can you make the right choice?  One important factor is to ask whether the training on offer is nationally accredited.  Nationally accredited training is backed up by a nationally recognised quality standard and industry endorsement.

Some things you may not know about training options for mature age workers:

  • You can engage a person as an apprentice or trainee at any age
  • You can start someone on an apprenticeship or traineeship even if they are already working for you.  To find out more click here:

  • You may be eligible for government funding to assist you with training costs.  To find out more click here:

or -

  • if you have staff who cannot read or write or who have difficulty communicating in English, your Registered Training Organisations can design training programs that take this into account by including literacy, numeracy or computer skills.

or you can -

  • Call the Reading and Writing Hotline on 1300 6555 06 to find language, literacy and numeracy help in your local area.
  • If you employee did not finish school or has no formal qualifications, it doesn't matter.  Your Registered Training Organisation can assess their existing skills land plan a program that builds their skills from that point.
