Section Three - 3 hour Workshop

Management and Staff

Exercise One: Factors Impacting on Business This exercise addresses ways in which an RTO can assist business in meeting their changing needs, key issues facing their client group, and ways in which older workers are provided with an appropriate environment for learning
Exercise Two: Challenges This second exercise looks at the challenges facing RTOs in meeting the changing needs of their client group. It asks participants to identify critical challenges, consider solutions and identify key stakeholders in the process
Exercise Three: Opportunities Using the responses from the previous two exercises, this exercise assists in developing appropriate training and development strategies for clients
Scenario One: Sarah This scenario asks participants to consider critical factors in dealing with an organisation and their emerging learning and development needs
Scenario Two: Bill This scenario asks participants to consider critical factors in dealing with an individual learner
Scenario Three: Sean This scenario asks participants to consider critical factors in dealing with learners, including an analysis of current practices, and recommendations for improvement
Case Study One: Training Statewide's Approaches to RPL This Case Study is presented as an example of ways in which one RTO has adjusted their approaches to RPL to suit the needs of their client group. RTOs are free to use this in any way that they wish

Response sheets have been written for each scenario, however these are only presented as a guide to discussion, and are not the 'definitive' answers to questions raised

Two additional exercises are included in this section:

  1. Personal Reflection (MS Document, 33 Kb)
  2. Individual Skills Audit (MS Document,  58 Kb)

These exercises can be distributed to all staff at completion of the session. Once completed, they can be returned to Management, and results compiled as a part of the 3 hour Management Workshop

Results of the first three exercises will also need to be retained for use in the Management Workshop

Should RTOs prefer, activities can be presented one at a time, either at regular staff meetings or for more short, specific professional development events. RTOs are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the entire contents of this Kit and select the most appropriate method of delivery to suit their individual needs
